Large snowflake with a dense structure, resulting in broad branches that fill in more of the internal gaps. While not symmetrical when viewed in detail, the outline is relatively well balanced. The hexagon in the center is raised above the rest of the crystal,as if the snowflake began as a capped column and one of the plates quickly became dominant. Crystal measures 5.1mm in diameter and if the image were reproduced at 10cm wide it would result in a magnification factor of roughly 18x. Photographed on a black woollen fabric, the image is a focus-stacked composite of multiple frames to achieve complete focus across the entire crystal surface | |
