Colour-enhanced Scanning Electron Micrograph (SEM) showing hairs of a black bear (Ursus arctos). The hair is very strong and thick. It is used by traditional fly fliers for its glossy texture to attract trout, salmon, and stealheads. The hair is usually dark brown but it may range in colour from cream to almost black. Some of the hairs may have whitish tips, giving the coat a sheen-like appearance. Image width: 342 micrometers. Magnification: 292x if the image is printed 10 cm wide | |
