Colour-enhanced Scanning Electron Micrograph (SEM) of bamboo textile fibers. Bamboo fibers are produced by several companies, one of which is Litrax in Switzerland. The woody part of the bamboo is crushed mechanically before a natural enzyme retting and washing process is used to break down the walls and extract the bamboo fiber which is then spun into yarn. Some bamboo fiber is made by a bacterial process similar to retting flax into linen fiber. Image width: 197 micrometers. Magnification: 508x if the image is printed 10 cm wide | |
