HCV - Hepatitis C Virus. HCV is similar to the animal virus called pestivirus and is close to the human Flaviviridae group. The infection is especially passed by contaminated blood (intravenous drug addiction and nosocomial transmission). About 70 to 80% of people infected by hepatitis C develop chronic hepatitis,and 20-30% of these people eventually develop cirrhosis with a risk of liver cancer.
