An illustrated diagram of the Ebola virus replication process. The ebola virus is a single-stranded RNA filovirus responsible for severe haemorrhagic fever in humans. In this illustration, glycoprotein spikes (GP) on the surface of the viral membrane stimulate fusion with the host vesicle membrane to release the viral nucleocapsid into the cytoplasm. The viral RNA genome contained in the nucleocapsid will be replicated and transcribed into mRNA to synthesize viral proteins. Image 3 of 5 | |
