This axial (cross-sectional),contrast-enhanced,T1-weighted MR image demonstrates an enhancing mass (red arrows) involving the nasal septum,middle meatus/lateral nasal wall and the sphenoid sinus. Inverted papillomas usually occur on the lateral nasal wall or middle meatus and may extend into paranasal sinuses. They may contain HPV 6 or 11,possibly with EBV. These are benign epithelial tumours that grow outward in finger like projections. About 10% of these tumours are associated with coexistent squamous cell carcinoma. They are locally invasive | |
