This sagittal (from the side) T1-weighted MR image of the brain shows moderate to marked enlargement of the lateral ventricle with stenosis (narrowing) of the aqueduct of Sylvius and a normal size fourth ventricle. This appearance is consistent with aqueductal stenosis. This was treated by creating a hole (communication) between the third ventricle and the suprasellar cistern by poking a hole through the floor of the third ventricle. Patency of this created CSF diversion is seen as the dark linear region | |
