Kinta weed (Papilionanthe hookeriana/Vanda hookeriana) was once an abundant terrestrial/semi-aquatic orchid in the swamps of the Kinta Valley,Perak,Malaysia, where it grows together with the spiky leaves of Hanguana malayana. In 1893 it was hybridized with another Papilionanthe to create Papilionanthe Miss Joaquim which in the 1930s started the commercial orchid industry in Hawaii.
