This unique image demonstrates the extensive network of nerves found at each spinal level. All structures within the spine have been removed except the nerve supply. The large thick appearing structure located to the right is the dural sac that contains the individual nerve roots. Note the vascular supply found on the surface of the dural sac. Bilateral nerve roots are seen to exit the dural sac in a symmetrical fashion. A large bump is seen (dorsal root ganglion or DRG) immediately prior to the division of the nerve root into the dorsal rami and ventral rami.
