Haemophilia, factor VIII transfusion administered at home. Haemophilia is an inherited blood disorder in which one or more of the plasma proteins (factors) needed to form a clot and stop bleeding is missing or reduced. The most common type of haemophilia is factor VIII deficiency. Factor concentrates, purified from plasma are given as intravenous infusions. Concentrated factors are freeze-dried (lyophilized),so that patients can keep a supply of factor at home, and infuse themselves when needed | |
