Adrenal gland with primary, bilateral carcinomas. The adrenal glands are located above each kidney. They are part of the body's endocrine (hormone) system and secrete steroid hormones and adrenaline. Some carcinomas cause the tissues to secrete excessive amounts of hormones, which can lead to symptoms including masculinization of women, feminization of men, acne and increased libido. Other symptoms can include abdominal pain and weight loss. Adrenal carcinomas are very rare and are usually not detected until they are advanced and have spread (metastasized) to other parts of the body, leading to a poor prognosis | |
