Heliconia chartacea, with fruit. Heliconias are relatives of the banana. They are widely grown as garden plants in tropical climates, and as greenhouse subjects in cooler regions. Heliconia flowers are inconspicuous, and it is the brilliantly colored bracts that are so spectacular. This species is found from the Guianas south through the Amazon Basin.
