Malignant carcinoid is a yellow colored tumour that arises from enterochromaffin (silver staining) cells located below the surface of the gastro-intestinal tract,and also in the ovaries and lungs. This tumour may be associated with the carcinoid syndrome (flushing,asthma,diarrhoea and heart disease) due to the release of various humoral factors.
