NMR spectrometer analysis. Two-dimensional screen display of the structure of a potential antibiotic drug, analyzed by a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectrometer. The mixture of chemicals in a synthetically produced drug is seen here. Each peak on the plot corresponds to a component of the mixture, and its concentration. NMR spectroscopy uses a magnetic field to analyze the atoms within each chemical component. Each component may then be selected and tested for its antibacterial activity. this research aims to produce new antibacterial drugs that are effective against bacteria which are resistant to known antibiotics.
