This beautiful area of the Milky Way,our own galaxy seen from the inside,contains bright red emission nebulae intertwined with numerous dark nebulae,dust and star clouds. The area is mostly located in the constellation of Sagittarius,but also contains some portions of Serpens and Scutum. This area is located along the line of sight near the center of our own galaxy. The bright emission nebula M8,the Lagoon Nebula,lies at the lower right corner of the image,and M17,the Omega Nebula,and M16,the Star Queen Nebula lie at the upper left. In the middle of the frame is M24,the Small Sagittarius Star Cloud. M23 is at upper right and M25 at lower left. Both are large open clusters. Dark nebulae B92,B93 and B84a are also labeled | |
