NGC 4565 is one of the most famous examples of an edge-on spiral galaxy. It is also called The Needle Galaxy. It is bisected by a prominent dust lane that runs just northeast of the central bulge. It is 16 x 3 arc minutes in apparent size and 9.6 magnitude in apparent brightness. It is located in the constellation of Coma Berenices at a distance of about 31 million light years.
