Pop-up thermometer. Pop-up thermometers are widely used for cooking turkey,especially in the USA during the Thanksgiving holidays. Inside,the thermometer has a spring-loaded stick (typically red) held in place by a soft metal. The thermometer is inserted into the meat before cooking. When the temperature reaches 185 deg Fahrenheit (85 deg Celsius) the metal melts and thus releases the stick that pops up indicating that the meat is cooked | |
