John Flamsteed (1646 - 1719),English astronomer. Flamsteed was the first British Astronomer Royal and laid the foundation for the Royal Greenwich Observatory. A Fellow of the Royal Society,he calculated solar eclipses,sighted Uranus (which he thought was a star),and calculated many stars.
