Living Stentor coeruleus,a ciliate. Cilia is mainly found on the Stentor's trumpet,to aid in the ingestion of food. It forms a photosynthetic relationship with the algae it eats, causing its blue or green appearance. The Stentor exhibits photodispersal, enabled by horizontal rows of cilia on its body that facilitate mobility. Also in the field are Euglenas and Colpidiums | |
