This color enhanced, sagittal (lateral) CT reconstruction of the lumbar spine clearly shows a bony defect involving the L5 pars interarticularis (purple). This is called a spondylolysis. This is often a traumatic defect that causes pain in the lower back, but can sometimes be related to a congenital weakness in the bone. There is no evidence of a subluxation (called spondylolisthesis). (Enhancement of BD5053) | |
