This heteropod is a mollusk related to clams and squid. Carinaria lamarcki is a free swimming marine snail with a greatly reduced shell. What is left of its shell contains and protects most of its digestive tract,the gonads,the heart,and the gills. It is predatory and consumed a number of organisms that were trawled in with it while in the lab. This individual was collected between 200 and 400 meters depth in the Gulf of Mexico,2007 | |
