Foxglove penstemon,Penstemon cobaea,is also known as wild foxglove and foxglove beardtongue. This species has the largest flowers of any of our native Penstemon and has been much used in hybidizing garden varieties. The name beardtongue is derived from the hairy staminoid characteristic of most members of the genus. Wild foxglove is a prairie species that grows from KS south into Central TX.
