Rafflesia flower (Rafflesia arnoldi) on the forest floor. At a width of over one metre, this is the largest flower in the world. It is parasitic, spending most of its life as a tiny thread within its host,a type of vine. When mature, the elaborate flower erupts from the vine. It only flowers for a few days during which it attracts pollinating insects by its strong smell of rotting flesh. R. arnoldi is only found in Sumatra, southeast Asia | |
