Bunsen burner. Lit bunsen burner with a characteristic blue flame. The burner uses gas as a fuel. The gas is supplied by the tube at lower right. This gas is mixed with air which is admitted though the hole near the base of the burner. The gas and air mix in the tube and are ignited at the opening at the top. The mixture of air and gas increases the efficiency of the burn, making the flame burn blue. If the opening at the base is closed,no mixing takes place, resulting in a yellow, smoky flame because the gas is burnt incompletely | |
