| Chemical reaction. Chemical reaction caused as aqueous potassium chromate is added to a test tube containing lead (II) nitrate solution to form chrome yellow pigment. The reaction forms a yellow,cloud-like precipitate of tiny particles of insoluble lead chromate. The yellow colour comes from the presence of the chromate ions in the precipitate. Potassium chromate is comprised of potassium (K),chromium (Cr) and oxygen (O). Lead nitrate is made of lead (Pb),nitrogen (N) and oxygen. The equation for this reaction is: K2CrO4 + Pb(NO3)2 -----> 2 KNO3 + 2 PbCrO4 | |
