Constant level tubes demonstrating the concept of atmospheric pressure equilibrium. The tubes are connected at their bases, and are open to the atmosphere at their tops. They show that, despite the size or shape of the tubes, that the fluid in them will settle to the same equilibrium level in each. From this it is possible to show mathematically that atmospheric pressure is acting equally on the four fluid surfaces. This experiment is analagous to the ancient tenet that 'water will always find its own level' | |
