Nuclear light guides. View of liquid core nuclear light guides from the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility,or Jefferson Lab. The light guides transmit scintillations,or faint light flashes, produced when certain particles hit scintillation crystals. Liquid core light guides work like fibre optics and so carry light to a detector with little or no absorption. The light guides enable the position and number of particles from a nuclear reaction to be measured. The Jefferson Lab is at Newport News,Virginia,USA | |
