Light micrograph of fibres found in photographic paper. The photo-sensitive gel which coats the paper contains silver halide particles (not visible here). Although some specialist paper is made from vegetable fibres and rags most types are manufactured from wood (in particular hemlock, spruce, poplar, pine and fir). The wood is reduced to a fine sawdust, made into a pulp and then pressed. Magnification: x80 at 6x4.5cm size | |
