Juvenile springbucks (Antidorcas marsupialis) in a group. Springbuck calves are born after a 6-month gestation period. Offspring are often grouped together in nursery herds,as seen here. Such herds may be supervised by one or more adults. These gregarious,gazelle-like antelope inhabit the open dry plains of southern Africa, feeding on grass, leaves and shoots. The springbuck is the national emblem of South Africa, where it is known as the springbok. Photographed in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, southern Africa | |
