Klipspringers. Male (right) and female klipspringers (Oreotragus oreotragus) standing on a rock. These herbivores are gregarious and are often found in small groups. They spend the hottest part of the day resting among rocks, which they move about on with great agility, even where there is no apparent foothold. The bottom of the foot, beneath the hoof, has the texture of hard rubber, allowing the klipspringers to make impressive leaps and bounds whilst keeping their legs rigid. They are found in eastern Africa from Ethiopia south to South Africa. Photographed in the Mala Mala Game Reserve,South Africa | |
