Warthog family (Phacochoerus aethiopicus). Between 2 and 4 young warthogs are born after a gestation period of around 175 days. They nurse from their mother for several months, becoming independent after about 1 year. Warthogs live in small family groups, spending the hottest parts of the day sheltered under vegetation or in a den adapted from an old aardvark burrow. They inhabit savannah and grassland throughout sub-Saharan Africa. Photographed in Kruger National Park,South Africa | |
