Wart hogs (Phacochoerus aethiopicus) drinking. These herbivores live on the savannahs and plains of sub-Saharan Africa. They prefer to be near to a water source, which they use for drinking and for wallowing in. They live in small family groups, usually spending the hottest parts of the day under vegetation or in a den, which is adapted from an old aardvark burrow. Wart hogs are mainly herbivorous, feeding on grasses and herbs, but they will occasionally eat carrion. Photographed in the Mkuzi Game Reserve,South Africa | |
