Zebra and oxpeckers. Zebra (Equus sp.) carrying two oxpecker birds (Buphagus sp.). The birds have a symbiotic relationship with the zebra. They remove ticks and other skin parasites from its coat, relieving itching and pain. They also alert their host to danger by hissing when predators come into view. In return, the oxpeckers gain protection from predators and a constant food supply. Zebras live on the grassy plains of southern and eastern Africa,in large herds composed of hundreds of individuals | |
