Young European hare (Lepus europaeus). The European hare is native to northern, central and western Europe and western Asia. It lives in open country, feeding on grasses and herbs during the summer and twigs and bark in the winter. It is normally shy,but in spring can be seen chasing across meadows or 'boxing'. Hares are preyed upon by golden eagles, red foxes and wolves. In Europe, populations are declining due to changing farming practices. Photographed in May in Kent,UK | |
