Yawning female lion (Panthera leo). This social carnivore spends most of its time relaxing in shady areas. Female members of a lion pride do most of the hunting, the male forcibly taking a share of the food after a kill has been made. P leo was originally found throughout Africa and southern Asia. However, habitat destruction and hunting has restricted its distribution and it is now found in savannah and scrubland in sub- Saharan Africa and in scattered areas of India.
