African hunting dogs (Lycaon pictus). This dog lives in packs of up to 20 individuals, inhabiting the savannah of sub-Saharan Africa. Packs are led by a dominant couple, who are usually the only breeding pair. With its pack it hunts prey up to the size of a large antelope, although smaller animals are also taken. Unlike many predators,it never scavenges from kills made by other animals. It may reach a metre in length | |
