Grey fox. Grey fox (Urocyon cinereoargenteus) sitting in snow. This fox inhabits woodland and rocky areas from southern Canada to northern South America. It is a nocturnal hunter,and eats almost anything it can find. It is a good climber,and raids birds' nests in trees. It also eats small mammals,insects,fruit and berries. It is a solitary animal,occupying a large territory which is patrolled nightly. It sleeps by day in a den in a hollow log,rock crevice or a hole excavated by another animal.
