Large-spotted genet (Genetta tigrina) at night. The large-spotted genet is a solitary carnivore that inhabits the woodlands of southern and eastern Africa. It is arboreal, resting in trees during the day. The large-spotted genet is a slender animal, weighing up to two kilograms, with a tail that is almost as long as its body (approximately 45 centimetres and 50 centimetres respectively). Its tail is banded, and there are large spots with rusty centres on its body. It is an accomplished hunter preying on rodents, birds and reptiles, but is also hunted itself by leopards and carnivorous birds. Photographed in Itala,South Africa | |
