Common dolphin. Long-beaked common dolphin (Delphinus capensis). This dolphin is found in all tropical,sub-tropical and warm temperate waters,mostly in coastal areas. Adults can reach lengths of up to 2.5 metres. It is a social animal,living in large groups,or pods,that usually number 100 individuals,but that can number thousands. The common dolphin is a fast swimmer and enjoys acrobatics. It is also highly vocal. Its calls sometimes being audible above water. It feeds on a diet of fish and squid.
