Springhare (Pedetes capensis). This rodent reaches a body length of around 40 centimetres. It has a long bushy tail that can be around 40 centimetres long. It resembles a kangaroo,having short front legs and powerful hind legs. It is sensitive to noise and easily startled. It is a nocturnal feeder,foraging within a few hundred metres of the underground burrow where it sleeps in the day. It is mainly herbivorous,eating oats,barley and wheat,but sometimes eats insects as well. It lives in the grasslands and deserts of eastern and southern Africa.
