Chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes). The chimp in the foreground is using two rocks as a hammer and anvil to break open a nut. The use of tools is rare in animals and is considered a sign of intelligence. The chimpanzee inhabits forests and forest edges in central and western Africa. It lives in large social communities of up to 100 animals,divided loosely into family groups.
