Vervet monkey,or savannah monkey,(Cercopithecus aethiops) feeding on the fruit of a fig tree. The vervet monkey lives on the savannah and scrubland of Africa,by forest edges and running water. It lives in groups of about 20 individuals, but much larger groups have been seen. It lives alongside humans throughout much of its range, and often raids cultivated land, stealing fruits, flowers and seeds. The vervet monkey has several different alarm calls relating to different predators, including leopards, snakes and birds. Photographed in the Mkuzi Game Reserve,South Africa | |
