Verreaux's sifaka lemur (Propithecus verreauxi) leaping between trees. This lemur lives in the forests of south-western Madagascar, feeding on fruits, flowers, bark and leaves. The small membrane of skin at the base of each of its forelimbs may assist it in gliding. Its uses its long, powerful back legs to propel it through the air. Verreaux's sifaka lemur lives in small groups, usually of between 5 and 10 individuals. It is named for its distinctive "si-fa-ka" call, which is used as a warning to other group members when predators are near. Photographed in the Berenty Reserve,Madagascar | |
