Tasmanian pademelon (Thylogale billardierii) joey suckling from its mother. The Tasmanian pademelon,or red-bellied pademelon,is a nocturnal, herbivorous marsupial that inhabits the rainforests of Tasmania. It is a solitary animal, but may come together in small groups to feed. After a gestation period of thirty days, the young joey moves to its mother's pouch and attaches itself to one of her teats. It stays in the pouch for six and a half months and is weaned at eight months. The joey is cared for exclusively by the mother. Photographed in Tasmania,Australia | |
