Grey-headed kingfisher (Halcyon leucocephala) perching on the end of a branch. The grey-headed kingfisher is often found near rivers or streams but,unlike most other kingfishers,it is not aquatic and is common to scrub and woodland. Grey-headed kingfishers have a wide distribution from the Cape Verde Islands off the north-west coast of Africa to Mauritania,Senegal and Gambia,east to Ethiopia,Somalia and southern Arabia and south to South Africa.
