Milky eagle owl or Verreaux's eagle owl (Bubo lacteus) perching on the branch of a tree. This owl inhabits the forests and grasslands of Africa south of the Sahara desert. It is the largest owl on the continent, reaching a length of up to 70 centimetres. It feeds on a wide variety of animals, including monkeys, hares and large birds. Each milky eagle owl has a large territory which it rarely leaves, although the young often travel great distances when establishing a range of their own.
