Vultures with carrion. Cape vulture (Gyps coprotheres,in foreground) and a lappet-faced vulture (Torgos tracheliotus,head at upper right) feeding on carrion. They are perched on the dead body of a wildebeest. More Cape vultures are seen in the background. The lappet-faced vulture,also known as the Nubian vulture,is the most powerful of all the African vultures. Despite the Cape vultures outnumbering it here,they are smaller and have given way to the larger and more aggressive vulture. The vultures' bald heads allow them to keep their feathers clean whilst feeding. Photographed in Etosha National Park,Namibia
