Flamingos preening. Flamingos (Phoenicopterus sp.) are found throughout sub- Saharan Africa,Southern Europe and Southern Asia as well as in South and Central America and the southern states of North America. Flamingos range in colour from white to bright pink depending on their intake of carotene found in food such as shrimps and algae. Flamingos filter-feed using their turned beaks to remove any unwanted silt. The colouring has a considerable impact on the flamingo's chances of mating as colourful individuals make more desirable mating partners | |
