Yellow-crowned night heron (Nycticorax,or Nyctanassa,violacea). This waterbird inhabits swamps and marshes from the eastern USA through Central America to the eastern parts of northern South America. As its name implies it is mainly nocturnal,stalking or ambushing its prey,which is mainly frogs,small fish and crustaceans. It can reach a length of over 60 centimetres.
