Great white pelican (Pelecanus onocrotalus),also known as the eastern white pelican. The large bill is used to catch fish in shallow water, which are then swallowed whole. Males also display to defend their territory by gaping their bills. Groups of great white pelicans may co-operate to catch fish by forming a semi-circle and forcing them into the shallows. Great white pelicans are found from Eastern Europe to Western Mongolia, and in sub- Saharan Africa. They inhabit freshwater lakes, deltas, marshes or swamps, nesting in reedbeds or grasses.
